The panorama has a point of origin: Robert Barker's patent of 1787, which set out to give viewers the feeling of truly standing in a place. Matthias Taugwalder sees his work as a continuation of that idea. Where Barker worked with painted rotundas, Taugwalder uses fully spherical photography — yet the aim remains the same: not to place the viewer in front of the image, but inside it. His series carry forward the ambition of the great panorama pioneers, from Adolphe Braun to Vittorio Sella, with the tools of today.
