Excerpt of the exhibition text
Panorama photographs of the Alps are among the canonical representations of Switzerland. Visitors are captivated by one-of-a-kind visual documents from the collection of the Swiss National Museum.
The exhibition records the great technical leaps made possible by such panorama photographers as Adolphe Braun, Emil Ganz and Emil Schulthess, all the way to the digital revolution and its innovator in the field, Mathias Taugwalder, a mountaineer and computer specialist from the canton of Valais. Using the digital stitching technique to create seamless, razor-sharp 360-degree views, Taugwalder contributes his own images to the exhibition in the form of a spectacular, traversable panorama.
